I am in the process of purchasing a 69 Corvette and wondered if anyone could provide me with some information. What does the 68-69 Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide say about the correct block casting number for a late September car? From my limited knowledge it looks like either a 3935439 or a 3955270 block, if the casting date is June, July or Aug., could be correct. However, I would like to know what the Technical Manual or other 69 owners have to say about the two blocks for a September 68 car.

For a September, 1968-built car, I'd say that either block could have been originally used. If the block in the car, regardless of which of these 2 casting numbers, is dated correctly for the car and the pad stamping appears legit, it probably is the original block. If it doesn't have a correct pad stamping, but the casting date of the block is correct for the car per NCRS guidelines, then I believe that the block would be considered correct for the car regardless of which of the 2 casting numbers you mentioned it is.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
