    68 grill restoration and screws.

Hi! If someone could post a picture and/or description of what the grill screws looked like for 68 and 69 corvette, I would be a great help. I am thinking I might have some of my originals but not for certain. I suspect it should be a philips head with a flange on it, black plated??

I also need a description of what the headlight shield screws are suposed to look like. Pictures would be great or a description. I might have some of my originals also. I suspect they should be a Philips head screw with a captured washer, black phosphate plated??

    Thanks in advance, Terry

Terry, you are correct on the grille screws. I will have to think a minute about the shield screws though. My feeble, pea pickin' mind is still fuzzy after the drive back from the convention.

I believe the "shield" screws are the same.

They seem to work in both locations, that is for sure. I am thinking I have about 4 of my originals but I am not certain for sure. I also can't tell if they are either grill screws or shield screws. My experience is that they sometimes used acceptable alternatives when the usual was not available. Terry

Brain function is back to somewhat normal (for me anyway). Same screws in both locations.

Sorry Dick, I'm confused. So which is correct....philips with captured washer or philips with flanged head? Thanks, Terry

Dick, I have gotten a couple responces from people regarding the screws. Some report the grill screws and the headlight shield screws to be the same but others report them different. The assembly manual shows them to be different though. I think I have a few originals and they look remarkably the same unless you take them off the car and look at them up close. One has a washer head and one has a flanged head. The both seem to function the same in both locations. I will say that the washer head screw seems to put less torque on the plastic grills when tightening it But I believe those belong to the headlight shields because that is where I found them?? I have the part numbers and I will ask Joe if he can find a physical description for them. If you send me your email address I can send you some pictures of the screws and you can tell me what you think. Thanks, Terry tfringo@aol.com

Terry, me thinks that the flanged head would be correct. I think that if you used either, they would not be penalized during judging. My opinion though.
