    mid year wiper arm restoration

Anybody seperate the casts piece (part that fits the transmission shaft)from the stainless wiper arm? The stainless arm is very nice polished for a 65 but the cast "head" is not up to par. I wish to get it rechromed but face problems reattaching it. I can make a new rivet but peening it may be a problem to look correct. Anybody go this route?
Are replacement chrome cast "heads" available?

      Joe,
Thank you for response but I am looking to resore the shiney wiper arms myself. I do not find satisification in "sending them out". Not that there is anything wrong in that route. Just not for me. Again has anybody done this restoration first hand and have suggestions.

Gene - The base cast piece can be re-chromed but if it has been wrenched on, it doesn't turn out very satisfactory. Also, you need to prevent the inside splined area from being plated otherwise the re-plated piece will not go back on to the splined transmission end easily and if it does go on when you go to remove it, the chrome plating peels. Best approach as far as I'm concerned is to replace the base cast piece. Pete

          Gene,

Paragon reconditions the wiper arm hubs, and will reattach them to your wiper arms using correct rivets. I went that route with mine........polished the arms myself, then had Paragon chrome and reattach the hubs........they did excellent work. I am always reluctant to send anything out, too, but in this case it's probably necessary to get the rivet installed correctly.
          Good luck.

          Joe
