61 Resister, Points, Coil problem

I've searched & searched the archives and can't seem
to find my problem.
Left key on and burnt wire to key switch. Changed to a new
wiring harness. Engine turns over but no fire.

Afraid to leave key on for any length of time for fear of
burning new harness..
To test the resistor, coil, & points for power, should I leave
points open or closed with key on ?? I have points set at 18 thou.

Any help & or hints would surely be apprectiated. I'm at my wits
end... Tks. all. Jerry....

Turn key on then using a trouble light you should have power on both sides of the resistor. Dist cap off you can with a screw driver open points to see a spark telling you it's getting power.

Per your response, both sides of the resistor have power.

Points do not spark. Now what ? Do you think they might be
grounded.. TIA.. Jerry.

Problem solved... 2 new sets of blue streak points, both
with wick holders.. One was touching the spring on a set
of points. (I bent it. Ugh).
Ground off both wick holders, replaced, and car started instantly.
