    Side Pipe Cover Insulators

The "fiberglass" insulator on one of my side pipes came loose and laid on the hot pipe and damaged it. Two questions: 1. Does anyone know what the black adhesive is that is used to attach the insulators to the covers and, 2. is the insulator really fiberglass as indicated in the usual catalogs? The so called fiberglass is not cloth or mat soaked with resin as is the case with a body panel. It looks and feels more like fiber board. It is two layers thick with a very small air gap between the layers which are attached to each other and to the covers along the long edges. The inside layer is damaged but the outside one is not. I would like to repair long holes/gaps on the single layer but not sure how or if it iseven possible to do.

    Re: Side Pipe Cover Insulators

    Tom,

The insulators are "fiberglass mat and polyester resin press molded composite" components. Degradation of the forward shield is common.
A fine adhesive which works well is ordinary black, polyester resin bonding adhesive.
