    Driving Tires / Original Tires

Just looking for some input. I have a 69 and a 70 with original tires, I have a spare set of wheels (8" rallys) and I'm going to buy a set of radial driving tires so I can enjoy taking these cars out. Any good sugggestions as to brand, and size (that I can fit comfortably without hitting the body or frame). I also would possibly like to use these on my 67 for the same reason, keep in mind they will be on 8"rims. One suggestion was BF Gooodrich T/A's.

    Hi Zachary:

The first thing to keep in mind is, what will work best on the 69 & 70 won't fit the 67 and vise versa. The 69 / 70 will fit most any radial of the 215 - 245/70s and the accepted judging size is 215 and I understand some judges if not all will accept 225/70s.

I have successfully ran 255/70 on my 69 with no interference but others have experienced rubbing.

As for what brand, you will get as many different opinions as there are tires. Michelin is making some excellent performance radials that many seem to like.

I have had great success with Goodyear Eagle GT's, 225-70R-15's on my 70. They have been unavailable since the early 80's but can be found at swap meets etc. They are the best combination of street and performance that I have seen. I have never had a car judged with them so I'm not familiar with the deducts.

During judging the original tires will be put back on the cars. The 69 is a blackwall Goodyear Speedway tire car. The 70 is a RWL Goodyear Speedway tire car.

Jerry - I think you mean 255/60, not 255/70. Also, I would not refer to any tire with a speed rating of less than "H" or a wear rating greater than 300 as a performance tire, but few tires in the size we need qualify. Zach - there's are a lot of tire threads in the archives. You should check them out.

              Zachary,

I'll give you one size 215/75R15. That should work as a "combination size" for the Shark and Midyear bodies. BUT I'm not sure about that size AND 8" rims on the 67. I remember Duke Williams had been using 7" 1968 rims with radials on his 63. Hope this has helped. TBarr #24014

                Hi Tom:

It might work but it will look REAL strange on the Shark..:)

                  Jer,

Maybe that's why I ain't gettin no trackshun. I've got the 215/75's on my 68, but then again those are the 7" rims. I haven't seen a noticable difference in "looks" though. Maybe people just make fun of me when I'm not around. ;-) TBarr #24014

                    Trackshun ?

                    Hey Tom:

Let me guess, you bought 75s so you could have redlines...you must be sadistic, wasn't that a Stones song?

"I can't get no sadist trackshun".

I thought it was "I Ain't Got No Sadist Trackshun". Yes, it was the redlines. In "hind-site" that's where my head was. TBarr #24014
