    Starter 1108430 vs 1108368

I am rebuilding my starter, 1108430, for a 73 L82. The armature shaft is worn and undersized where the engagment slide gear moves. I have found parts of a new starter, 1108368. The armature is similar except for it has a few windings and the slide gear has twice the ribs in it than the OEM starter does. The stator windings and steel blocks appear the same. Does ayone know if I can replace the internals of the OEM starter with the other unit and not have any issues with the starter.

I can't find any record, at all, of any GM/Delco starter of GM #1108368. So, I can't tell you what, if any, parts of it will interchange with your 1108430.

I can tell you this, though: not all starter armatures are interchangeable. There are some which appear different but which will interchange and there are some which appear different which will not interchange.

IF the 1108368 starter, whatever it may be, has an aluminum nose WITH TWO LONG BOLT MOUNTING + HD field coils (identified by 1" copper spacer between field coil terminal and solenoid lug), like your 1108430, then there is a very good chance that the armatures will interchange. If the 1108368 has a different nose than your 1108430 and/or non-HD field coils, then, while it's still possible that the armatures will interchange, it's less likely.
