61 2x4 Aluminum Thermostat Housing Casting Numbers

Picked up an aluminum thermostat housing at the swap meet today.My car is 1961 2x4 270 HP.Febuary build. Can anyone tell me if I bought the correct part.The csting number is in large print(GM 3837223)or should the print be small.Im LOST please help.

I can't offer any help relative to the size of the part number characters on the thermostat housing, but the cast aluminum GM #GM #3837223 is the correct one for your car.

Hi Jeff - The 61-62 Judging Manual identifies this P/N as correct for aluminum intakes. The large size numbers (5/32") reflect the original housing. The smaller size (3/32") is identified as the "service replacement" housing. Hope this helps....Dick

Large is right. Small for mid-years &service replacements.
