    Correct size tires for 64

I am putting my car back to stock and wanted to put back the original steel wheels and tires. I was wondering what the correct size tires are?

    Charles------

6.70 X 15 was used for all 1964 Corvettes. These were, of course, bias ply tires. The only way to get that size today is in a reproduction tire.

I am planning on putting a modern radial tire. What would be the updated size. Thanks

I used 205/75 on my 64. I've heard that this is the most accurate size to compare to the old style. I've also read that others have gotten away with a little bit larger size but the 205/75 seemed to work really well for me.

I agree Joe. The 205-75's are just about exactly right for the car. It's true that a 215-70 will fit but the car looses a little of it's original look. The slight additional tread width isn't worth the additional size. Makes the wheels look too narrow.

Western Wheel K/O's with 215/65-15 Michelin X-One on my 1963 Z06 - very aggressive stance and tread - loves to squat in the corners! (VBG)

I agree, they are more fun to drive with a little more tire on them. I have 215-70's on one of my 63's and it handles like a go kart. Looks totally wrong but that's just a driver so I don't care how it looks. Black walls on black wheels with no hubcaps, just like in the early 60's.

I definitely wanted the 205-75's on the 66 though. Looks somewhat correct.
