shoes don't appear to be - they should look like "hockey pucks" not a complete shoe like these appear to be - fans and drums appear to be genuine from what is viewable

Re: Original Z06 Heavy Duty Brakes

I am told it is best to use standard shoes on street cars with the big brake set up as the actual metallic big brake shoes will not hold well..under cold street use condition.

joe: rick is right on. the shoes in the pics aren't anywhere close to config of oringinal ZO6(1963, not the pseudo ZO6 C-5's or C-6's). as far as poor stopping ability of the original ZO6 metallic pads when cold, i consider them more than adequate when cold, better than organic pads when hot. old wives tale?. mike

            Good Try

Z06 brake shoe front part # on box 3846286 part # inked on shoes inside of the box 5464717 SEC 5464716 PRI Joe this is from the nos shoes I have, Dont know for sure if all shoes have these numbers, but all Ive had and seen do, Pass cars used J65 brakes as did corvette, both using regular drums, worn J56 shoes look like J65s. New J56 shoes have thick pucks, if your shoes are new,. Iad say their J65. All front J56 and J65 shoes are 2 3/4. 684 and 687 are 2 1/2 Phil 8063

              I'll try again!

              Phil..I defer and ask..

What # is cast into the facing outer ridge of the 63 Z06 finned drums?

Also...Do your NOS shoes have any stamped #'s on the back side?

Did over the counter service HD shoes have thicker hockey pucks than the factory originals..

Can you post some pictures of your NOS shoes?

What are the shoes pictured below?

              Many thanks,

              Joe

                  Phil...THANKS!

I have one Primary shoe that is stamped 662 and another primary that is identical and is stamped 056.

Which is interesting..because the two secondary's are also stamped 056.

Looks like this hobby needs a book dedicated to RPO 684 / 687 etc..

                          J65 pucks (comparison) Phil C & Joe#930

Joe -- Looking at your earlier picture of the shoes, they do look a little thicker than these NOS J65 set # 3794191 (2-1/2", for '63 & 64) The secondaries are 0.291" thick [yours loook a little thicker]. Ink stamps on the secondaries read 5461961 102EG; primaires are 5461960 101FF.

I also have a set of NOS 2" rears #3794194 if anyone wants data/dimensions.

Click on link below above photo for the instructions and washers that came with this set. Especially check the part #'s for which these instructions apply.

                              Re: J65 pucks (comparison) Phil C & Joe#930

                              Wayne..the hockey puck on one of my primary's measures about 5/16 thick x 1 5/8 x 2 3/4 as shown below.

Not sure that I know anymore than when I started ..other than early front shoes are 2 1/2 and later front shoes are 2 3/4...thanks tou and others.

These four shoes may have been on a vehicle at one time but appear to be very new. They also seem to be spot welded and not bonded.

It would be nice for other owners to contribute pictures of what they have, say what they think or know on HD shoes..so better details are available for those trying to figure what they have.

                              Thanks,

                              Joe
