My positive battery cable end was giving me problems so I cut it off and put a cheap NAPA side terminal on it expecting to replace the cable in its entirety. When I got the replacement cable, I noticed it was a smaller guage cable and also noticed what a bear it was going to be to replace it anyways. After spending the day on the internet, I found a jobber that can supply: heavy duty tie bolt, a mechanical compression, a crimp, or a solder side terminal or lug, some in copper and some in lead. What I need to know is, what size is the stock aluminum clad copper cable in my car? Any reccomendation of the end to use?

Re: 1979 Battery cable Repair
The copper clad aluminum was always 2 gauge sizes larger than the equivalent Copper cable to adjust for the conductivity difference between copper and aluminum, so a 4 gauge cable (typical V-8 GM) in copper woul be a 2 gauge cable in Cu-clad aluminum. E mail me if you have questions, I replaced one in my '72 when I was working, and I may have some information somewhere.Bill Clupper #618- Top
