I was at a NCRS Swap Meet today and I met a guy that wants to sell me an nos spare tire. He said that the spare tire is smaller to properly seat the cover over it. I need help, what are the tire and rim specs in detail. Thanks again guys

That's interesting, tell him you want the other 4.
He is wrong about something but may be sort of right in what he's selling you and just confused as to why. The standard wheel spec is 15"X5" and they fit in the well just fine. The optional and rather rare wheel is 15"X5.5" and they don't sit level with the trunk floor when in the well. You can see a slight bulge in the trunk mat when a 5.5" wheel is in the well. The standard tire is 6.70X15 (non-DOT), I'd guess about half or more were WW and most (I have seen) were US Royal.
So he may (incorrectly) think for some reason that a 5" wheel was supplied so that you wouldn't have that bulge when you ordered the 5.5" wheels. If so, he may actually be selling you a correct 5" wheel but with a weird explanation. If not, he is selling you some odd ball junk. It doesn't say, "Space Saver" and "Do not exceed 55mph" does it? ;)
If he is selling a correct 5" wheel and the others on his car are 1/2" wider, tell him you'd rather have the wheels that are still on the car.

Re: 61 Spare Tire
You asked about tire size and the fit of the spare tire cover. THE 205/75 R 15'S that a lot of people are substituting for the original 6.70-15's will not fit the spare tire well regardless of which wheel you use. Most tire manufacturers still catalog a 195/75-15. Your favorite dealer may not stock them, but he can probably get them. They are a little narrower than the 205's. I don't know if they are enough narrower to make a difference or not. If you can find a tire shop that would let you try before you buy or has a used one you can try.- Top

Re: 61 Spare Tire
Hi Ed - I'm also curious. I have a Coker 6.70x15 tire on a 15x5 rim in my 62 spare tire well, and it still is wide enough to cause the 3/8" - 5 ply cover board to be above flush with the trunk floor. When they were judging at Carlisle (I think 1996), I asked a team leader about it. I was told that they are all far less than a perfect fit. I did not ask about any point deductions attributable to a poor fit, however. ...Dick- Top

Re: 61 Spare Tire
The original tires will NOT inflate to the same width as those calling themselves "repro's"; cars using the 5 1/2" wheel required an additional cut out of the tire board plywood so that the lock could engage; buy the spare!- Top
