My 1971 SB clutch fork ball stud is damaged and needs to be replaced. GM shows two lengths are used; 1 3/8" on 66-75 and 1 1/2" on 76-81. These are not available thru GM. Zip, Paragon, etc. only show one application and it's 1 1/2". Mine is out and it measures 1 3/8". Anyone else ran into this? Can I use the 1 1/2" stud?

You're correct-----your car originally used the 1-3/8" clutch fork ball stud. However, that stud was discontinued years ago by GM and replaced by the 1-1/2" stud. So, GM says that you can use the 1-1/2" stud and I can verify that it will work just fine---maybe better than the 1-3/8". The 1-3/8" stud was kind of an "aberation". It was originally used from 1966 through early 1975. 1955-65 Corvettes used the the 1-1/2" stud. Late 1975 through 1981 Corvettes also originally used the 1-1/2" stud, even though no components of the clutch system changed between early 1975 and later 1975 through 1981. That implies that, perhaps, GM found that the 1-3/8" stud didn't work so well after all.
I don't think that you'd find a 1-3/8" stud, even if you wanted one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Clutch Fork Ball Stud Length
Gary, there was a lengthy and very informative "lessons learned" posted by Tim Bond regarding clutch replacement on his mid-year and IIRC, Tim included some words concerning getting the correct length clutch fork ball stud.
