    fuel tank

    I recentley had to reinstall my fuel tank for my 62 and istalled a new rear wire harness and to my suprise when i started the car the fuel gauage is bouncing from empty to full is there something i missed when i reversed the process. Thank you in advance

    Check the ground wire connected to the lug on the fuel sending unit; if the connection is intermittent, the gauge will do exactly as you noted. Even better, add a dedicated ground wire from the lug, down through the hole where the main fuel line exits, to the frame.

      If we think about it where is the gas tank grounded?? Sits on fiberglass body , hold down straps have a based liner between the tank and straps .filler neck is held buy a rubber donut , only the gas line may supples a little grounding, so that is the reason a ground wire running from the Corvette sender to the gas gage is used , then the gage is grounded to the dash STEEL support which needs to be grounded to the frame.
      So if the dash steel support is properly grounded the gas gage should read correct , if not you get various readings, some people miss this point.

        You might have to much paint on your dash steel support where the ground wire is connected isolating the tank from the frame...
