I know that this subject has been covered before, but I am still uncertain as to the proper application. The judging manual states that the bottom of the exhaust is mitted out, but the pictures in Nolan Adams indicate that the drips are coming down from above and bare metal is on the bottom. If the object is to make the exhaust system less noticable, the pictures don't make sense. At Bloomington I saw a 65 that had been mitted from above with drips running down and mostly bare metal exposed on the bottom. Most of the cars there had no blackout applied.
Can someone help me with what should be mitted? How far forward does the blackout go? Does it go up the pipe toward the manifold or stay only on the horizontal pipe? Does only the bottom of the muffler get covered? What about the ends and the rear hanger? It was applied after the system was installed so should there be no paint on the pipes as they pass through the frame? I want to be as correct as possible if you can help me.
