    Pennant Blue 54

About March of 84 I wanted to buy a new 84 Corvette. The cars had been delivered to the dealers but they were kept under wraps for an April debut. After contacting several St.Louis dealers and all saying they could not reveal the new 84 Corvette..I got pissed and bought this Pennant Blue 54 instead.

It was a 64,000 mile original drivetrain car.

    Check out the funky hubcaps.

It is amazing how 54's have become so popular recently...22 years later!

            Re: 54 hubcaps

As I recall..I ordered a set of 54 hubcaps and flippers for the car at a cost of about $350 or so.

I think the hubcaps were still available from GM but the flippers had to be added..

When I put them together they were beautiful. Now try to buy a set of 53-55 hubcaps..it cost more than I paid for my first 59 Corvette.

I may still have those 57 Plymouth hubcaps up in the rafters. Speaking of 57 Plymouths..years ago..I bought a set of 57 Plymouth Fury original dual quads from a character named Holly Swindel in St.Louis..who either campaigned with the Back up Pick-up or bought the the dual quad set up off the Back up Pick-up.

When I went to buy them..he was selling a garage full of Hemi engines, a 12 cylinder tank engine and assorted unusal items.

Don't you just love the people in this hobby.

Wayne..Had I bought the 84..and kept it..I guess it would be worth about $4000 to $12,000 today.

I restored the Pennant Blue 54 and sold it a few years later..but today it would probably be worth $100,000..give or take. It was a very nice car.

It was interesting..after I restored the 54..I was offered a new 1986 Corvette in trade even up.

A classmate of mine in high school had a new '57 Fury with the "Golden Commando" dual-quad setup, and those same wheel covers

                  Plymouth WCFB's

When I bought the dual quad set up..Holly Swindel..told me the 57 Plymouth Fury Carter WCFB's did not have the same problem..with choking or flooding in the turns as the Chevy Carters.

I do recall a WCFB carter release that recommended a fix for that flooding problem exerienced in turns.
