Getting ready to start construction on my new home with a three car garage to store and lift my vett via stinger's extended auto lift...anyone out there using this lift who can offer any preconstruction advice? I'm going with a 12' ceiling in one bay to accomodate my 66 with winter parking under it. Also any advice on garage construction besides ceiling height and insulated floors? Also stinger has a line of extras can someone using this lift suggest some important extras that should be purchased with a new lift if they consider them a must have? Thanks in advance.

Re: Stinger lift in new garage
A 8' tall overhead door is a must if you ever want to move the lift out on the drive. The lift will not roll out a 7' high door. Also, in my opinion, a high-lift door is also a necessity. Without a high-lift door, you will not be able to raise the door up while the car is lifted. On a high-lift door, the door goes straight up almost to the ceiling before it turns and goes horizontal. It kind of defeats the storage function of the lift without one.

Re: Stinger lift in new garage
I would buy the drip pans and at least one jacking bridge.I have a 9' wide 8' high door and a 10' wide would be better as I must screw mine out the door. I would not park any car under the lift unless the upper car has silicon brake fluid. I was at a friends house and a nice silver paint job on a midyear was ruined by brake fluid from the upper car. He had drip pans but brake fluid comes out on the ramp and leaks under the pan lip then run down the sides of the split window.- Top

Re: Stinger lift in new garage
That is one reason that I use only DOT 5 brake fluid! I saw a car at Hershey 3 years ago that arrived at Nationals loaded on the bottom deck with a car above that had dripped DOT 3 all over it's hood in transport. It was not a pretty sight! I can always wipe the occasional drop of oil or DOT 5 off the car parked underneath, but the drip trays have always caught the drips.

Re: Stinger lift in new garage
Another angle you might consider is a curtain type door that is like a roll up window shade. It does not limit the height of the ceiling. They are a little spendier but probably less exspensive than raising the ceiling.- Top

Re: Stinger lift in new garage
Here's my high-lift setup, with an 8' door and a 12' ceiling; the horizontal door tracks are 8"-9" from the ceiling, and the operator track is 2" from the ceiling; I can open the door all the way with the car at full standing working height on the lift.
