I have had two R-59 Maintenance-Free Batteries, from Antique Auto Battery Co. in Hudson, OH, go bad in just over 15 months. They are the manufacturer and I believe they supply Restoration Battery in Cincinnati, OH., although I bought mine directly from Antique. The question is: Has anyone else had failures or difficulties with these relatively new maintenance free restoration batteries?

Re: Antique Auto Battery Co/Restoration Battery
I bought a R-59 from Restoration Battery. It arrived broken in the box. The warrentee tag in the box had a phone number that I called. Antique Auto Battery answered and sent another battery. They were great. I have used the battery for about a year. I disconnect the battery every time I park the car for more than a couple of hours because I am leary of the 1967 vintage wiring.

Re: Antique Auto Battery Co/Restoration Battery
Yes, I purchased mine from Tom (Restoration Battery) at Carlisle last August. The battery fails to hold a charge after being charged per their own directions. Tom provided me the telephone number of AAB, saying it was fully covered. I called and talked to Chris, who, after a series of questions, told me to pack it up and send it back, the battery was fully covered and they would send out a new one. They seemed very nice and told me directly they will cover it, as Tom did when I talked to him too. I have just finished packing it up, and will send it tomorrow. I will keep you posted, as I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. However, if you have the direction sheet that comes with the battery you will find it has a 1 year direct replacement, and 3 year pro-rated warranty with the battery. I would contact them at 1 800 426 7580 talk to either Chris or Deloris. I was really disappointed about the failure of this battery. I hope this is not a start of a trend.- Top

Re: Antique Auto Battery Co/Restoration Battery
Collin, thanks for your input. Presently, I am in the same position you are in. I have shipped my R59 Maintenance Free Battery to AAB yesterday per their instructions; however, this is the second R59 that I have had fail in 15 months. The first one AAB charged me $120.00 to replace because they said the lab determined that the failure was caused by "user error" (overcharging). Stay tuned.- Top
