I'm looking for a musclecar to invest in.I don't know a lot about Vettes as I am a Chevelle Camaro type guy.My question is why are BB 68-69 Vettes so cheap?I've seen nice 427-400 tri power and 427-435 tri power Vettes going for 40-$50.I thought these cars would bring a lot more money. What's the deal? Thanks.

Rick-----
$40-50K is "cheap"???? Anyway, the value of early C3 cars has lagged behind mid years for years. Partially, that's because there were a lot more C3s made than mid years. Partially, it's because the C3 body, in basic form, lasted for 15 model years; the mid years last for only 5 model years. Partially, it's because, for whatever reason, mid years are in high demand. Believe me, the prices for C3s will continue to rise as will the prices for mid-years.
However, I remember the time that the 1968 Corvette was unveiled to the public. At that time, the 63-67's were instantly "dogmeat". People who had just purchased 67's lamented the fact that they had gotten "stuck" with a car that was "instantly" obsolete and VERY dated looking. Tastes do change over time, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Hi Joe!
I would say that the C3 catagory was a long production spanning several years. But, I sort of split it up into sections. I sort of see the 68/69 corvette as unique enough to stand on its own. If you want to generalize more, you could catagorize the C3's that had chrome mumbers 1968 to 1972. After that it seems the cars started to change cosmeticly. But, I don't know the 73 and later cars that well because they don't appeal to me. Anything with a chrome bumper does appeal to me though.
I think the 68 through 72 will perk up in price. The car market seems somewhat peaked at the moment as is the stock market and realestate. The economy seems to be on the cusp of something.
Take care, Terry- Top

Rick,
It's taken awhile, but the '68 to '72 year Corvettes time has come. The next 5 years will see a dramatic rise in value for these cars. This last year has seen some dramatic increases in the '68,'69 L-71/L89 optioned cars. The '70 LT-1's has risen alot recently. In just the time from Bloomington '04 to '05 the L-88's took a tremendous leap, so has the '71 LS-6 during this last years time frame.
I believe in a couple of years, we'll all look back and say to ourselves, I wish I'd bought those cars. Just like we say about the '63 to '67's.- Top
