C-3 GM Replacement Fiberblass Tire Tub

I'm looking to purchase a lower fiberglass tire tub for my '74 coupe. Can anyone tell me if the GM replacement fiberglass tire tub offered by Doc Rebuild is comprable to the tub originally installed on this year Corvette? I'm not familar with any of the specific details to determine whether the damaged one I now have is original or not? The TIM & JG states that the spare tire carrier is natural finish fiberglass.

Your tire tub should be black or could be called dark gray. Later tubs are light gray but not white. Ask the doc the color before you order but one from a swap meet could be a better choice for NCRS points. They are not hard to find used but one without damage takes longer to find.

The original spare tire tubs had visible fibers in the finish, The last GM replacement I saw did not have these fibers. You may want to check this out . I agree with Lyle that looking for a known original is the best approach.

Hi Ray, I had to replace the top of the tub on my '74 and I found a used one at Corvette Connection in Bolton, CT. 860-645-0184. If you want to go that route, I strongly recommend that you go up there (past Hartford) and examine the tub before you buy it. As you know, parts may be created equal but not all used parts are equal. Bill

Thanks to all for the replies. In my upcoming travels, I'm planning to visit Corvette Restoration Parts in Bolton and also Corvette Country in NH in search of a correct original tub.
