    Re: Star/Bowtie Judging

    Sam,

It is a judging process whereby a very original, unmolested car is judged on the basis of originality of its interior, exterior, chassis, and mechanical configurations. A "star" is awarded to the candidate which passes each segment of the process, for a maximum of four stars. A four star car may be re-entered in a National Meet to be re-evaluated, and awarded the Chevrolet Bowtie Award, which is the proper way of saying "five-star" award. If you believe that you have found a special, original car, then I suggest that you contact your local chapter and let them evaluate it BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING!!! Also, get yourself a copy of the Corvette Judging Reference Manual for further explanation.

Actually, if your car garners four stars, it gets the Bowtie. The fifth star is earned by entering/displaying the car in a certain number of subsequent events.

          And to add on...

NCRS has basically two categories of judging and award competition: restored cars and unrestored cars. The Flight system is for restored Corvettes, although unrestored cars can participate as well and the Bowtie system is for unrestored Corvettes. That's a simple big picture....

              Terry,

That explanation is not entirely correct, and should be changed. The Chevrolet Bowtie Award is not available to post 1982 (C4) Corvettes. The equivalent award for post 1982 Corvettes is the "Crossed Flags" Award.

                Re: Star/Bowtie Judging

Right you are Joe -- since the Crossed Flags Award was introduced in the last year it has made the Bow Tie explanation on this board incomplete and inaccurate. I'll bet a hint to Roy Sinor (after the National Convention is concluded) would go a long way toward getting that updated. Which of us will remember to do that?

Just sent John an email. I am sure that he will update as soon as time allows.
