Q-jet finish?

I just thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone knows what the original finish for a Quadrajet is.

I was told that it was Zinc Dichromate but from what I can see on the net, this is just another term for yellow cad/zinc which would be incorrect for a Q-Jet.

If anyone can let me know what the proper finish is and better yet, how to apply it, I'd really appreciate it!

Actually Greg, I think yellow cad or zinc dichromate is the right finish -- it just gets left in the bath longer than the Holley's do.
I can't help with the how-to. The only thing I own with a Q-jet will see a tuned-port motor some day.

Yes Terry I think you are right.

I was thinking that the q-jets had some other bath than the holley did and that was why they looked different. Now I've learned that the alloys in the pot metal may cause the color difference along with the longer bath time as you mentioned.

I think I'll try and dip one in my yellow chromate bath from caswell and see what happens...wish me luck!

I forgot about the possibility of slight alloy difference causing the color -- that is a good point. I hope you have an expendable carburetor to practice on.
