C1 Brake Stop Light switch spring

I have disassembled my original brake stop light switch on my '56 in order to rebuild it. It is a very simple switch wtih a spring, two contacts, two washers (one brass) a button and housing that is mounted on a bracket that bolts to the steering column support. I suspect that it is the spring getting weak over time and would like to replace it. The contacts still look good. Any ideas where I might find a replacement spring or thoughts on what might be the cause of the malfunction? BTW- already tried the turn signal switch. All new and works and cancels perfectly. Thanks.

Try stretching the spring longer first

Gary, Most hardware stores carry an assortment of springs. I got several individual sizes for different projects at a Tru-Value but I know that most of the other major chains also stock them.

        Roy,
I bet the spring in your NOS switch would work just fine!! Good idea stretching it. I'll try it.
        Thanks.

Bernard, I have a really good ACE hardware store near by. I'll see what they have. If I can't find what I need I am sure that Roy will be happy to give me his..........

stretching it has worked for me in the past. The pic. I like showing real original parts on this forum if I can, so many people buy the wrong looking parts
