Re: Wreck 1 mile from home!!!!!!!! photo
Glad you are OK Don. Broken fiberglass always looks bad. The good news, as I see it, the front end is intact. Doors....even door skins are easy to replace repair. The rear quarter panel is also easy to replace. The rear door sill / latch area will be the difficult area, but many good Corvette only body people can make this and these repairs as new.
If you need some help in finding a good person to do these repairs, just ask. Many of the great Corvette people network right here. I know a few around the country, so just ask.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

Don,
Sorry about this but glad you are unhurt. I agree with Jim on this. This looks pretty bad on the surface, but the good news is it's "on the surface". It looks very repairable.
I'll bet the other driver was on a cell phone. I wish you luck with the insurance settlement.

Don!
OUCH! My sincere condolensces - glad you are okay.
If you don't mind, let us know who you are insured with and how they respond to this horror show. Appreciate it!
As soon as I saw your picture, it occurred to me that the Corvette body has always been a "surviver body" full of crumple zones long long before people even knew what a crumple zone is.
I have rolled in a '68 Vette. The body was a total mess, like rolling a hard-boiled egg in your hand, more flexible than solid when we were done. But we were unscathed, not even a bruise. Yes, we very were lucky. But I have always maintained that a Corvette's fiberglass body will give and work to protect its occupants.
Please don't test this theory!

Diminished Value claim
As one of the other members pointed out, you have a real claim for "diminished value". For those unaware, not only does the insurance company settle for repairs, but will also provide cash payment for lost market value due lack of originality, etc. As we all know, a 'no-hit' '67 BigBlock is more desirable than a previously wrecked of same vintage. The trick is establishing the value difference between the two. I've done these evlauations professionally in the past, but no longer in the business. I recommend calling someone like Auto Appraisal Group - they have carved a niche in this side of the business. The more original and documented it is, the bigger the claim. If its a modified or less original, then dollars may not be so good.
I'm glad you're OK. Good luck with the claim. Would you mind keeping us up to date on the claim process, good and bad, to help us all prepare if heaven forbird we should be in the same situation. Thx.- Top

Re: Diminished Value claim
Most insurance Co. will NOT pay diminished value anymore. Owners have lost . Courts have decided if repaired properly car should have same value.AND true value cannot be determined until the car is sold. I have had a few customers try but none have had any luck so far. ..think about it ..If you bought your car brand new for $6000.00...now its wrecked and only worth 40,000 instead of 70,000..& you only have it listed at being worth 30,000 on your ins policy.its kinda tuff to convince a jury of SUV & Buick owners whose cars lost a third of their value when they drove them off the showroom to feel sorry for you.. Take it to a quality repair shop.get it fixed and enjoy it....Bill- Top
