I am just in the middle of rebuilding the tranny in my 65 coupe and after removing the shifter plate on the side and cleaning the grease off I have discovered a small hole in the case. It is about 3/16" and does not look like it should be there. It is rough not drilled, and almost looks like a thread for a bolt started but on the inside it is very rough like it was poked out from the outside. Can someone tell me if it should be there or not before I fill it in. Thanks in advance. Sheldon

Re: 65 MUNCIE WITH HOLE IN TAILCASE
Sheldon --- I, too, have just removed the shifter plate from my '65 tail housing, part # 3857584, and I see no unexplainable 3/16" hole in the case. When your triangular shifter assy. mounting plate is on, is the small hole in line with the lower/forward bolt attaching the shift assy. to the plate ? This bolt is REALLY short, to avoid contacting the tailshaft housing. I'd plug the hole; it's far above the oil level in the trans.- Top
