    C3 water pump pulley

I am looking for a new water pump pulley for my 1968 Corvette, L71 engine, non AC. Is this part still available from GM and if so can anyone provide me with the part no and approximate cost? If not, what would be a good alternative for judging purposes?

Looking forward to your responses and input,
    Erik

    Allow me a stab

since it's been over a day and the usual suspects haven't responded. All I can tell you is what's in my GM catalogs, as I don't have a '68 AIM. In my '68 P&A30 (1st issue, Oct '67) they refer to: '66-'68 Corvette (427) (exc. C.A.C.) #3906656. This replaced # 3864480 ('65 396 and '66 427 on 12-66) for SERVICE. Neither of these check out on GMpartsdirect.com, but they are available in repop catalogs (Corvette Central, for example --- $ 130 [ouch]).

Problem is, that the '69+ catalogs don't refer to the "656" for a '68 application; (only 396 and 427's to 1967), but DO call out a #3889372, 2nd design, '68-69 Corvette (exc. 3 x 2 ???). Nothing that could be used on the L71.

    Maybe others can help further.

      Re: Allow me a stab

Thank you wayne - I assume one of the usual suspects is Joe; i received a separate email from him:

"The pulley for your application is long-since GM
discontinued. It is a 3 groove pulley. I've forgotten
the GM part number and I'm away from home right now
and won't be back until July 1, so I can't look it up.
The same pulley was used for most 68-70 Corvette big
block applications. This pulley is difficult to find
NOS or, even, used. However, it is reproduced and is
available from most of the Corvette parts vendors. I
believe the price is about $100-150 US."

I guess I have to settle with repro then unless somebody knows where to get NOS,

      Thank you,
      Erik

My current (broken) pump is the one with part #3889372 as mentioned by Wayne.

wasn't there an add on pulley?

I'm not sure of the years used, but there was a two groove, deep groove water pump pulley that was later sold by GM as the "L88" pulley. There was apparently an add on pulley that bolted in front of the 2 groove to add the third groove for the AIR pump. I have seen the add on pulleys on e bay for about $45.

I am certain the above mentioned setup WAS NOT used in 1969 or later as my 1969-70 cars all have the expensive 3 groove pulley that has a part number ending in "BF". There is a similar looking pulley used in the 1971 and later cars, so be careful when buying as they have the wrong bolt circle and the pilot hole is bigger (you can't just redrill the bolt holes).
