    63' Coupe Carpet

I did read down a few threads on carpet install but didn't want to hijack that thread. My 63' has edge bound carpet "everywhere" in it. I mean that it's on the inside of the roof, rear deck area, and covers the side humps too.

I have heard that this is not typical to the late 63. They may have had vinyl in much of the back of the vehicle. I bought my 19 pc Al Knoch carpet about 18 months ago and have not yet installed it, and now I am expecting that it will not completely cover the back as I had anticipated.

My carpet looked like a complete factory setup. Is this actually true?

    Hi Mike -

I own a very late '63. Edge bound carpet "everywhere"??? Hmm, I don't think so. Inside the roof? No. The roof above the passenger compartment has a vinyl covered headliner. Then comes a painted fiberglass "halo" panel (interior light is on it). Then grained vinyl is glued to the rest of the rear roof under the window trim and down to the top of the wheel hump areas. From there down are vinyl edged carpet panels, and there are a lot of individual carpet pieces making up the '63 interior. The only carpetting not edged are the non-visible edges - all around the jack well, the cuts around the under-seat area (no tool wells), and anything hidden under hard trim.

I actually do have the "fiberglass halo panel" but everything else is carpeted. Well, at least I won't be surprised when I finally get to installing it and learn that I didn't get enough carpet 2-years later!

      Thanks for the response Pete.

        Michael,

If your car indeed has carpet for a headliner, I can assure you that Bubba did it. That isn't a factory installation for any Corvette (63 or otherwise) that I'm aware of. Go back as Gordon described.

        good luck,
