IR gun . other uses. off topic

I know this is going to sound not quite right but I also have a IR gun & am just CURIOUS if I could find out body temp by inserting in the Ear?
After all people with children buy an intrument to see if there is fever that inserts in ear (W/O laser) .I had one. But maybe they do not operate in same way. Perhaps unhealthful. Any thoughts? M.D.s out their? Don

Point it at what ever your smoking divide by 2 and this will be your body temp.

I used to work for a major manufacturer of tympanic thermometers. I suspect that your IR gun may look at a different wavelenght of IR than the medical thermometers. The other key to the medical thermometers is that they must "see" the tympanic membrane, so a small tip is required. The resolution and accuracy required is also much greater than you'll ever see with your IR gun.

On the other hand, it's a great way to find out whether you should put that hot cup of drive-through coffee in your lap!
