1961 Brake lights

Just found out my brake lights are not working.All other lights are fine. Any suggestions as to how to fix? Thanks Ron

check the ground wires and be certain extrnal-tooth lock washers are installed before the ground spades are inserted on the threaded studs of the tail lights. mike

The ground wires are under the retaining nuts on the housing studs. Do your turn signals work? If they do, it's probably the brake light switch.

yes they work, at the top of the brake pedal there are two ends sticking out with a plastic clip that goes in one and a metal clip in the other these appear brittle and dirty.Is this what you are reffering to?

check the fuse..My brake lights went out on my 62 and it was the fuse.

Yes, that's the brake light switch; one wire feeds full-time battery power to the normally-open switch, and depressing the brake pedal closes the switch, sending power through the other wire to the turn signal switch and from there to the brake lights (or to the turn signals if they're in use).
