Intake Manifold/ Carb Inquiry

Gentlemen:
I own a '70, 454, 390 HP Corvette without the big block engine. I recently purchased a used 454 engine
without the intake manifold and carb. I have been told the correct intake maniflod is a low profile item
for hood clearance with a specific casting number. What is that number ?? What is and how do I
identify the correct carb ?? Also, what is the current approximate USED price of each ??

The intake manifold you require is a cast iron manifold of GM CASTING # 3955287. Although it is of a low profile design, this manifold was used on a wide range of big block engines during the 1970-71 period. Virtually all big blocks with oval port heads (which was the vast majority of big blocks) used this manifold. So, unlike the similar configuration 68-69 Corvette aluminum manifolds which were a Corvette-only item, these manifolds were produced in FAR greater numbers. They are not what one would call "rare". I would say that about $100-200 ought to buy one---maybe less at a GENERAL automotive swap meet.

A lot of different Q-Jet carb models were used for 1970 Corvette LS-5 depending upon transmission and whether originally California-delivered or not. Most of these carbs were used across the Chevrolet line so they are not Corvette-unique pieces.
