    63 park brake installation

The link below has two photos: one of the dash mounted park brake bracket and cable assembly; and a close up of the cable assy. There are three notches on the cable end and I'm trying to determine which one matches up with the notch in the bracket and is to be fastened with a clip on the interior side of the firewall. I'm assuming that it is the center notch, which in the picture is approximately lined up with the notch in the bracket. That would leave the notch on the left end to be fastened with a clip on the engine side of the firewall. The reason I ask, is that the clip I received for the engine side is a tad small for that notch. I can get another clip, I just wanted to make sure I had the hook-up correct.

It's been too many years since I installed the emergency brake in my car. However I believe the last notch is on the engine side of the firewall. If you line that up see where the inside lines up. I also like to look at the sketches on the Long Island Corvette web site. They have some good blow ups. I believe they show the complete 63 setup.

      Steve,

The clips look to be correct for the 63 parking brake assembly. The picture you show is not lined correctly, the clip shown on the left (engine side) goes in the slot that you currently have lined up with the housing slot. In your picture, if you slide the cable left to line the cable slot on the right side with the housing slot above and install the long clip shown on the right side of the picture. You will also want to completely assemble the brake light switch and capacitor and install everything from the inside of the car.

Also keep in mind that the inner cable is connected to the assembly with a special pin that has a head that activates the brake light switch (63 only stuff), and on the firewall side, a rubber seal goes over the cable before the clip. If you need a picture let me know because if my memory serves me, the AIM did not show this very well.

Thanks. That will save me some trial and error time. Photo of AIM page below. It appears to show the seal on the interior side, which doesn't make much sense. A photo of the engine side hookup would be very helpful.
