oil pan nut plate

I need to replace the oil pan nut plate. I believe that the plate was spot welded. What is the best way to remove and secure the plate with out using a spot welder and damaging the oil pan.

Ray, to keep th integrity of the pan and the plate (meaning external seal to avoid oil leaks), I suggest you grind the plate and make it thin. When completed, braze the new nut plate to the old one.

The Nut Plate is Part Number 3723008, Chevy said it is now a discontinued part but there are 49 in the Michigan warehouse and a few in Arizona and New York. So if you need one or think you will time to order. They were $5.00 each.

I just purchased one (part number 3723008) from my local GM dealer for a grand total of: $3.78 and that includes the 8% NYS tax.
