What type of grease or lubricant is best to use on the Pivot's and Bearings for reassembly after cleaning off 40 years of old grease and grime.

Don,

A very light coating of white lithium grease to all sliding surfaces before assembly is sufficient. Impregnate the felt wicks with motor oil and squeeze out the excess before assembly, otherwise you'll have a drippy mess on your hands, and on the front of your car.
