    C1 1962 609 water pump

    I was wondering what the correct size of hole on the top of the 609 water pump is for the 62 FI pump? I have seen it called out a couple of different sizes.

      They were tapped for 1/2-14 national pipe thread (NPT). Now, keep in mind that 1/2" NPT does not measure 1/2" in diameter for the hole. The hole will measure about 11/16". That's what confuses a lot of people. I believe that all '609' casting waterpumps were tapped for this size fitting. Some commercial rebuilders might have enlarged them to 5/8 or 3/4 NPT, though, so that the pump could be used for a wider range of applications.
