    '64/L76 Air Cleaner Base

    On the passenger side of the base is a 1/4"-3/8" nipple with no provision for a hose hook up anywhere on the carb{2818} or the intake.At the rear of the aluminum manifold is a square plug.The AIM does not clearly show this detail.
    Please explain.

    Greg;

    The passenger side exhaust manifold should have a steel tube for the choke heater. The system draws clean air thru the hole in the air cleaner which you describe, thru a short section of rubber hose to the tube in the exhaust manifold. The passage goes thru the manifold, out again thru the top, and another steel tube attaches from the exhaust manifold to the 2818's choke housing.

      PS

      The square plug on the rear of the intake manifold is a vacuum tap for the power brake booster, if so equipped.

        Re: '64/L76 Air Cleaner Base

        Joe,
        Is it the same tube thats split with a tee that goes to the choke and the air cleaner?
        Or is it a seperate line to another port in the passenger side exhaust manifold,but there is only one hole?
        Explain further.

          Greg -

          There are no tees involved. A rubber hose goes from the nipple on the base of the air cleaner to the top of the choke hot air inlet pipe; that pipe goes down and connects to the bottom end of the tube that goes through the exhaust manifold, and another pipe goes from the top end of the heat tube (at the top of the exhaust manifold) to the choke housing on the carb. All carbureted engines used the same layout - shown in UPC 6, Section L-75, and Section L-76 in your Assembly Manual.
