Roy,
Here's my cheap fix to the air flow problem with Vintage Air side panels:
I made a little diverter handle which when shoved into the side vents makes the cool air flow upward instead of shooting over the ash tray and straight to the back of the car. I think it makes quite a difference in cooling the compartment.
Here's what I made the diverters from:
Yep, just cut off the brush handles from one of these brush kits. Made one for each side. With a little electrical tape on them they fit nice and tight into the vents and you can adjust the air to your desires. You can take them out for judging, but you are going to lose all your points (6) for the radio side panels anyhow.
I also did a fix for the signal flasher mount. My side panels came with the fresh air pull mounts. But to fit the fresh air pull on the driver side, they deleted the area where the signal flasher mounts. So I cut a piece of fiberglass from my broken original panel and glued it onto the Vintage Air panel:
No more full deduct for the missing flasher (4 points). Also I dulled the side panels down quite a bit by priming them with clear plastic primer and painting them with semi-flat dash paint.
Having fun,
