63 Upper steering column bearing followup

In a thread I posted previously, the bearing on the left was identified as 53-62 and the one on the right as 63. The 53-62 fits the column and shaft of my 63. Is there a compelling reason not to use it in a 63?

As I recall it's more than a bearing, it's the contact for the horn. Will the horn assembly in the upper part of the column still function/make contact properly?

I believe a repro is about $20.00. I've seen them (originals) go on ebay for $10.00.

Double check to see if that is a 53-62 part, somewhere my memory tells me the 63 part started in production on the regular Chevy line in 57 or 58.

The one withe the ground wire is new from Long Island, labeled as a 63 replacement.

Steve, I think they sent you the wrong one. The one with the wire missing (should be a green wire) connects to the wiring harness under the dash and completes the circuit for the horn. I'll look for a few photos tomorrow.

I ordered the same part for my 63. When I received it I called and told them it didn't match the original part. I was told it was a functional replacement. I didn't want the brown wire exposed so I sent the part back to LICS. I was able to find an NOS part on ebay for about $20.00.
I think the part will probably work fine.
You also could check out your original, if there isn't much wear you might be able to fix it.
I was going to reuse my original rather then the Long Island part.
