    C2-Driveline vibration again

65 365/M21/411 has driveline vibration/harmonic/shudder? under load. It is most pronounced when accelerating and lessens to a degree when running at a constant speed. It seems load sensitive not speed sensitive if i am making any sense. While under way you can PUSH THE CLUTCH IN and the vibration COMPLETELY goes away. Parked in neutral at any rpm the engine runs smooth with no vibration. I recently bought the car and this vibration has been there since day one. I have replaced the rear bushings (front diff. donut bushing, strut rod bushings, spring link cushions, 6 new u joints, rear shocks, Bair's corvette rebuilt both the differential and the trailings arms). New wheel bearings on all wheels. New wheels+215/70R/15 have been balanced. 4 wheel Hunter alignment accomplished. No help. Drives good but still vibration. Any ideas? could orienting the driveshaft 180 degrees do anything? Could the transmission cause such a vibration? appreciate any comments thanks.

    Joe -

Your info indicates that the source is forward of the clutch, and is torque-sensitive. Possibly a grounded-out engine mount?

Agree with John. Also check that harmonic balancer has not slipped/shifted.

and make sure you have the correct harmonic balancer, that why they call it that

Joe, I had a similar problem with my 69. In my case it was the rear transmission/driveshft yoke which was excessively worn. Replaced bushing and yoke together and the probelm went away. Grab hold of the yoke and see how much side play there is.

Could be a slightly bent drive or half shaft.

            Regards,

I understand the drive shaft could cause serious vibration if bent, reinstalled backwards from its' original orientation or balanced incorrectly.

Had the same issue in my '67, went nuts chasing it. Ended up being the transmission. Main shaft was worn so badly the main bearing culd not be pressed on. Rear thrust bushing was worn out too. All of this was supposedly after a restoration shop rebuilt the tranny. Had someone else rebuild the entire box and the vibration was gone.
