I have a service replacement Holley for my 396 coupe but am looking for a correctly dated carb. What would be an acceptable date for my car. Casting date March 17, Engine pad T0330IF, Serial # 15702 and body build date of April 21. I have found one that is dated the 4th week of January. Did they make them that early and could it be a correct date for my car?

Re: 3124 Holley carburetor
Gene,
My 396 coupe was built on May 24 and my 3124 Holley is dated first week in March. February carb would be better for you, but the one that you found may be OK. Let's see what others will say.

The carb you describe easily falls within the acceptable date range under NCRS judging guidelines. "Did they make them that early..."? Well, apparently, they did since you've found one. If they had not made them that early, you would not have been able to find one dated that early. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 3124 Holley carburetor
I have heard that the carbs were not made until February and I know that there are many fake dated carbs out there. I just wondered if anyone had ever known of one dated that early. These things are expensive and no one wants to make a mistake if it can be avoided.- Top

What about the other identifying characteristics of the carb, fuel bowls and such, are they correct?Bill Clupper #618- Top

I think that there is very little chance of it being a "re-dated" carb. I don't know why anyone would go through the trouble of doing this and, then, stamp a questionable date.
Of course, you want to be sure that this is a real 3124 carb. That should not be too difficult as there are plenty of configuration "cues". If it is configured like a real 3124 carb, then I suspect the date is real.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
