fuel gauge c1

i have a problem with the fuel gauge
the tank is almost empty and the reading is good but when i push the brakes
the gauge reads half full
or if i use the directions or use the lights it goes to 1/4 full

do i have some ground problem ?

Yes. Add a ground wire from the gas gauge sender to the frame. Lots of posts on this in the archives.
