    '67 427 Radiator

My 1967 427 (L36) has the original radiator and it is leaking pretty good. Should I pull it and have it repaired or if I were to buy a new replacement which company currently has the best to offer....Quanta or Dewitt's?

    Thanks for the help.

Another alternative would be to have a reputable radiator shop recore it. That way you have the original tanks, if they are still good-FYI

Have it recored with a DeWitts core. That way you'll have your original tanks, a correct-configuration core, and original performance. This can be done either by DeWitts or you can purchase the core from them and have your local radiator shop do the work.

          Michael,

I agree with Joe. Purchase the core from DeWitts and find a local radiator shop with someone capable of installing it. A couple of years ago a very good friend sent his 57 radiator to DeWitts and had them recore it. Several months after he received it back he installed it only to discover the radiator repairman missed soldering a four inch section of a seam. Rather than return it to DeWitts, he had it repaired locally. At the time DeWitts recored his radiator I believe they were sub contracting the work out. I would also ask who ever recores your radiator not paint it. This will enable you to detail it as you desire.

I believe DeWitts is the best choice for original style radiators today. They are also very nice people to do business with.

I purchased a core from DeWitts for my 67 L36. I took that to a REPUTABLE local radiator shop who used my original tanks. Some shops are somewhat rough in their quality so ask around the car "nuts" in your area for a shop that will take care......

One item that I had to do was drill 2 small holes in the top core frame to match the original GM configuration. Be careful not to drill into the brand new core.... I can speak from experience........ Possibly DeWitts is doing this now.

              Mike,

You can reuse the original top and bottom plates(with the original pattern of holes and cutouts) as well as the tanks on a new core. I don't know about now, but in recent years it wasn't too difficult get an automatic radiator through Delco, and you could switch your tanks with those on it and have the correct configuration.
