53-54 6-Cyl Linkage

Are the front accelerator, carb to accelerator and transmission control rods painted or cadmium plated? If painted, what color (presumably black?) and sheen? I have checked in Noland Adam's book and my old Judging Manual for the answer; no information regarding finishes provided. All I found was in Noland's book indication that the bell cranks were cad plated.
