    WV DMV?

Well, I just picked up a new piece of the history puzzle for my 66. Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles ran a history for me that indicates that the car came from West Virginia in 1985. It also had the title number from WV. I will be contacting and trying to run a title search through the WV DMV, but I was wondering what experiences members have had with West Virginia's DMV and if (unlike California) there might be something there?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob 39795

BTW - for those of you who saw the ding my wife put in the new paint/car, the painter and body shop came through and it turned out beautiful! Misery no more.

      Re: WV DMV?

My 67 L-79 Came from a woman in Charleston. To my amazement when I researched previous owners the W.V. DMV stated they keep records for 50 Years. An fee of 15.00 got me the particulars. She was the second owner, bought it in 75. My search was in 2001. They did state some records were lost due to a flood in late 60's. So somewhat of a crap shoot.

My '67 came from West Virginia, which I found out through the tank sticker which said Zone 40 Dealer 203 which was in Hamlin, W.V. I called the W.V. DMV and they told me they had VIN records back for the last 50 years. This was back in 2000.

I filled in the downloadable form and got all the DMV documentation from '67 to '82, I believe. The original and subsequent owners were all given. What a goldmine of information! This was before they instituted those Federal Privacy Laws though and I don't know what the current situation is. I did get to talk with the original owner, since his name was still in the phonebook.

Look at the top of the page below, it's stamped July 26, 1967. The car was delivered to Ideal Chevrolet on July 21st and it was built on July 9th. I had to "white out" the owner's same at the top and bottom, but he was 18 years old when he bought the car new and his father had to sign for the GMAC loan. PT

          Re: WV DMV?

          Hi Mike,

I don't know about any owner from WV, all I have is the title number. I plan on sending in the papers to the DMV to run a history. As far as the car goes:

          5/5/66
          327/300
          Milano Maroon/Black Std
          WR 4spd
          Black top (replaced in 76)
          3:08 rear end

It looked like this when it was registered in Ohio. The first owner there described it as such when he bought it off a used lot in '85. If it's ok with you, I would like to contact you after I get the results of the WV DMV title history - you might know an owner. I'm encouraged!

          Thanks in advance,
          Rob

            Thanks Patrick and Jay

            Patrick and Jay,

I'm excited and have printed the paperwork to run the title history - $15 and a stamp is all that's left. If they do keep records for 50 years, I might have a shot at it. Having lots of fun learning about this car, I feel like I'm tracking family history.

            Thanks for the encouraging words,
            Rob

                Re: Thanks Patrick and Jay

Very cool to have docs, half the fun is the search, with WV DMV you'll have a better than average results. Best of luck.
