Sunwest Auto Specialtied, Seat Belt Restoration

Has anyone heard of any problems with SUNWEST aUTO SPECIALTIES of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Karl Roepke, President? Karl had a booth at the Orlando meet this year and I sent him my shoulder and seat belts for my 67' along with a check for restoration. I have been trying to call him for the last three weeks and have left messages with no response. A lot of the time the line is busy??? My check has been cashed a long time ago. Please advise if you have heard anything!!

I have never heard anything but horror stories about trying to get him to perform. I have never done business with him, since I was aware of his reputation. I know people who have waited over a year for their belts, and even then they were not happy with them! Ask around about a vendor before giving them your hard-earned money. I doubt that you will find many people who will say a kind word about him, I know that I have never heard anything but complaints.

Jerry, Karl from Sunwest in New Mexico did the seatbelts for my 67 about 8 yrs. ago and I had the same problem. I finally had to go after him legally and he eventually produced my belts...minus the tags that were supposed to come with them. I would never do business with him again. I cornered him in Bloomington the following year and he did cough up the tags.

I delt with him years ago and I had to get after him in a bad way. I am sorry to hear you are dealing with the guy. I would not send him anything!!! Regards

You're welcome to search the Archives to read all about my 18 month long saga with him.

In the end, they look beautiful but it took WAY too much work to get them done. He had them TWICE as they ended up the wrong color the first time.

Jerry, if you are really desperate to get your belts back, I contacted a lawyer and had him send a letter to Sunwest stating his options. I didn't have to take it any further than the letter.

I got the NCRS to yank his ads from the Driveline.
I then got after him at Carlisle for a couple of years and called him incessantly.

I'm still tempted to throw an over-ripe tomato at him when I walk by his booth at Carlisle, but I don't.

I have nothing but bad things to say about Sunwest also. I think I contributed heavily to his ad being pulled from Driveline, also, several years ago.
I'm sorry that you have to learn about this guy the hard way. An attorney's letter is the first step. I also contacted the courts in his area and filed a legal complaint before getting my belts back. Karl called me and pleaded for me to let up on him. No such luck.

Got it, I just found out that this jerk is an attorney. Can you believe it? Just got his night school degree!
