Sun Visors How to keep them from coming down

I just installed a new set of Sun Visors on my 66 Roadster.

The old ones were original and worn. They also kept falling down no matter how much I tightened the screws. Tightened them so much that I stripped a couple.

I installed the new ones with new hardware, tightened them up real good and unfortunately they are still flopping down.

    Any ideas?

I know this is trivial, but would appreciate any suggestions as it's really bugging me.

    Thanks
    Nick

      Too Funny!!!

I new that someone would give me that response.

I'll give it a try tonight, but some how I don't think that will solve the problem long term, probably good for a few hours though!!!

I had the same problem with my '67 sun visors and tried just what you did and no they still wouldn't stay up. Bought a new set of visors and that cured the problem. The old set was kind of ragged out anyway. PT

          Nick,

I had the exact same thing happening to me on my 65 Roadster. And it's little things like that that really make a difference in pleasure driving. People kept thinking I was waving at them cuz every mile I was raising my hand to flip the visor back up. What I did was loosen the screws and pull out the rod, then slipped a very small section of convertible top material (cuz I just replaced the top, but any rubber or cloth type of material would work) in the visor hole and then pushed the rod back in. The material helps take up any slack in there and also provides a 'grippy' interference. The material strips that I used were only 1/4" x 1/2" in size.

So maybe size doesn't matter?! :-P

It worked for me. Good luck.

I fixed mine by removing the visor hardware and put them in a cloth lined vise and slightly flattered the area where the hinge pieces go.It cured the problem with no damage to the visor.

Jerry are you saying that you changed the profile of the pin Hardware from round to having two flattened sides?

                By Grinding two sides flat.

                Thanks for the feedback

Nick, you can squeeze the visor where the pin goes in tightening it up. I also pound the pins with a hammer turning them into a pin with 4 sides instead of round.
