Why don't some of the Bow Tie owners chime in and contribute this discussion? Jimmy

Roy, I would agree with your "if it's not in the JM it doesn't matter" position, but when there are so few details like this topic in the 56-57 JM you have to rely on something other than the judges recollection. That's my only point.

        I well try....

My '61 had unpalted Pan-Headed phillip screws in the back and Pillip head screws with washers attached in the headed-strip behind the seats. Now to add fuel to the fire... was the seal (strip-caulk) black or gray?

I can also agree with you on that point too.

              Strip Caulk Black or Gray

              Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their responses on my washer question on the gas tank lid!

My car is a 1960 and it has 41K miles and was very original (but had a couple of repaints and interior replaced, so I didn't do any BowTie stuff), so I usually look to the car to answer my questions first, except when I forgot to take a photo on disassembly as with the cover. I do plan to have it judged, hopefully in San Antone!

All of the strip caulk I had was either light gray or looked black, but, when broken in two, it was light gray inside. It looks like oxidation turned it darker, but all of it was clearly originally black.

As to the JM, there are a number of differences between it and what was in my car originally. None are big items though, mostly just things not noted in the JM. I have discussed many with Tim Mickey and some will be noted in the next JM. However, my philosophy is that this is the NCRS and not the NCJMS. A few points or not, I will redo my car as it came. Otherwise, the info that my car has to share with us will be lost forever and, inevitably, as soon as I change something, what I changed will be determined to have been correct anyway! How many are still using a mitt to paint their exhaust, for instance!

              Thanks,

              Bob

PS: I, too, would like to hear sometimes from those BowTie owners! Isn't that the whole purpose of the program?

                Bob -

The exhaust was never "mitted" - it was sprayed (although it will probably take another 30 years to get the "mitted" statement out of the JG's)
