I just started smelling a sweet smell in the car and sure enough there is a leak in the heater box and antifreze is dripping onto the passenger side floor. How difficult is it to replace the core? I have basic mechanic knowledge but don't want to get in over my head. Does it come out from inside the car or in the engine compartment?

i assume its not an air conditioned c-2, in which case you ought to be able to remove the heater box , from inside the car, then disasemble it to get at the heater core which should be replaced or re-cored at your local radiator shop. mike -

yes, it makes access much better. radio also comes out to access the speed nut in about the center of the firewall.do you have the shop manual? mikeComment

If you have, or can get a '66 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual, the instructions for changing the core are very helpful. You'd be surprised how much a corvette shop will charge to do it.Comment
