61 padded dash

I'm in the process of installing a new dash pad. Anybody have any hints or pitfalls to avoid.

There was an article in The Restorer magazine several years ago written by Loren Lundberg that I used to do my '61 pad. It was very detailed and my installation turned out good. I don't have the month or year it was written.

Thanks again for your help. My library only goes back to vol 18, so I just ordered the 61/62 CD.

When you reinstall the guage cluster, trim the foam from behind the vinvl until the cluster goes in smoothly. DO NOT push on the small guages to install the cluster. The pot metal is not strong wnd you will distort/crack the speedo housing. Do not ask me how I know this. Just be very careful.
Also, when the dash pad is installed, use an awl to poke the windshield heater vent holes in the pad. Then cover this area of the pad with masking tape and install the vent trim pieces. Mark the opening with a ballpoint pen and remove the trim pieces. Cut out the openings with an Xacto knife and paint the inside edge flat black. Remove the tape and install the trim. No ugly white foam.
