Installation of foam heat shield on a 69 427

I have the trans and bellhousing out. I've replaced the tunnel heat shield and have the foam heatshield for the bellhousing. I've read it goes just in front of the rubber boot on the bellhousing and it's glued in. Correct? Now my question is #1 it doesn't look like the foam is made to fit there...why? And #2 if I glue it on before putting the trans and bellhousing in, it looks like it will be impossible to put the bellhousing bolts in at the top. Has anyone done this and can give me some pointers as how to do it N.C.R.S. correct.

    George----

The foam rubber heat shield was not retained by any sort of adhesive. It was retained by a "pressure fit". I don't think that the location of its emplacement was precise. ABOUT where you mentioned is ABOUT where it was installed.
