    C3 PV Question

I'm doing some final checks on my '69 prior to PV next week and ran across an apparent contradition in the PV Manual (First Edition) regarding the light in the cigarette lighter receptacle.

On page 28, last paragraph, it says "Check that the cigar lighter well and radio dial lamps dim and brighten along with the other instrument and control illumination."

On page 29, fourth paragraph ("Cigarette Lighter Receptacle Lamp"), it says "This light does not dim with rotation of the headlamp knob, like instrument lamps."

Which is correct? Should the light in there dim or not as you rotate the headlamp knob?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

    Re: C3 PV Question

It is fed from the same source that dims all the other lamps. They meet at a splice. It will dim, based on the '68 wiring diagram. You will have to check the '69 diagram on your own, but if the lamp feed is a grey wire, it will dim.

Jon, thanks for the info on the contradiction. It will be corrected in future editions

        Re: C3 PV Question

Thanks for confirming that, Bill. The lead is indeed grey, and my '69 wiring diagram shows it coming off the same feed/splice as the rest of the lights also.

Good to know I don't have to dive into the dash wiring a week before the PV test. :-)

        Thanks again,
        Jon

          Re: C3 PV Question

I think that wiring may change and the cigar lighter will not dim in later C-3's. I am pretty sure by 73 it is on bright all the time so if the PV sheets cover other years you may just need a note when it changes.

            Jon,
I did successful PV's on my 70 and 71 and found the same problem w/ the cigarette lighter light. The manual is in error. Here are a few other discrepancies I found. These were all acceptable to my tam leader during the tests. These apply to either/both 70 and 71's. 68 and 69's may be different but they all are worth checking and being aware of.

            1. Page 13, If you have a 71 the TCS high idle is for 15 seconds and not the 30 seconds as indicated.

            2. Page 17, The seats hve 6 adjustment notches and not 5 as indicated.

            3. Page 19, The power windows do not operate with the ignition key in the accessory position.

            4. Page 21, The T/T wheel has 6 tilt positions - not 7 as indicated.

            5. Page 23, There is a typo. The word "lock" should be "unlock".

            6. Page 31, Blower works with left thumbwheel in the off position. What happens is the blower works but the damper is closed.

I passed these comments on to the 70-72 team leader and I would expect some changes in the 68-72 Operations manual when it is re-issued.
Good Luck with your PV test.
